Director of Network & Field Operations

Manage daily activities of national fiber optic and RF network consisting of four markets, 1,100 cell sites, and 5,000 route miles of fiber. Handle all network and customer issues, network outages, hardware failures, and circuit outages. Lead disaster recovery initiatives, such as weeklong efforts impacting 250 cell sites during Hurricane Sandy. Oversee service design, provisioning, and testing for 1,500 cell sites with multiples DS1 and/or Ethernet circuits.

Key Achievements:

·      Transitioned company into fiber optic network environment. Developed guidelines, engineered plan, and defined equipment requirements.

·      Pivotal in defining new corporate culture and developing employee mindset around Fiber Optic Systems, as the path for future company growth evolved. Involved in acquiring venture capital for continued business growth.

Managed fiber optic network growth (3,200 route miles across seven states) encompassing customer laterals, fiber cable design, construction, splicing, and troubleshooting of outside plant systems. Managed and engineered first application of Fiber to the Cell Tower. Involved in team efforts for defining network and hardware requirements to deploy fiber to more than 500 cell towers delivering TDM and Ethernet.

Key Achievements:

·      Instrumental player in tripling network footprint for more than 3,200 fiber miles over a three-year period.

·      Involved in team efforts for deploying largest Resilient Packet Ring Ethernet over SONET network in U.S.

·      Engineered, implemented, and tested first commercial Broadband over power line network.

·      Spearheaded development of Fiber to the Cell tower product through engineering, implementing, and provisioning service to more than 500 cell towers, becoming the top revenue generator in the company.

 

Nextel Communications – Philadelphia, PA              1997 to 2001

Led daily network mobile switching office (MSO) activities for four multi-site locations including transport, digital switching, base station controller/transcoder, digital cross connect (DCS), data fill operations, and more. Handled capacity management, transport and backhaul, network performance, hardware upgrades, adds/moves/changes, and system growth. Oversaw network trouble management for more than 1,200 cell sites with four mobile switching offices. Additionally handled network configuration, provisioning, data fill, and capital/operational budgeting.

Key Achievements:

·      Migrated greater Philadelphia market into first localized MSO. Fully implemented first Mid-Atlantic MSO from ground up through to implementation. Integrated and fully migrated Philadelphia market onto new systems.

·      Executed second MSO into Mid-Atlantic and Baltimore-Washington markets. Oversaw full implementation efforts from initial concept through to completion. Led market split and integration into new systems.

·      Assumed market responsibilities for Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan area to restore customer SLA to the market and successfully returned market availability to SLA metrics within first six months.  

·      Initiated and executed (FOA) projects for Motorola iDEN software and Nortel Software/Hardware.

Eastern Telelogic – King of Prussia, PA              1989 to 1997

Network Engineer

Launched start-up operations for central office design and construction. Directed SONET network fiber design, hardware design, and implementation. Handled circuit level design and Tier III Support.

Key Achievements:

·      Launched start-up operations for two new central offices and provided service to new and existing customers due to customer footprint growing outside original network. Both were completed on time and within budget.

·      Designed and implemented two new data collation facilities to overcome increasing demand on internal network (due to different types of service usage on existing network) requiring a new approach to managing internet customers. Designed and implemented new Data/Colo facilities within one year which were filled to capacity in first six months and allowed voice network to growth while generating new data revenue.

·      Designed and implemented AT&T dedicated ring projects. Entered into ACCU-Ring Network Access Service market. Assigned project to certify company and engineer first implementation. Passed certification test and documentation requirements. Conformed to ETC eligible in order bid on ATT ACCU-Ring projects.
